Eating food when it’s in season not only means it tastes better, it’s also great for your health and the environment. Not to mention, in-season produce is often cheaper, especially when there is a glut! In September, we’re focusing on blackberries, pears, squash and fennel.

Blackberries
September is peak blackberry season. Packed with fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants, they're delicious stirred into porridge, baked into crumbles or simply enjoyed with yoghurt for an easy seasonal breakfast topper or dessert.

Pears
Pears are a sweet, juicy and budget-friendly autumn fruit. They're a good source of fibre, which supports digestive health, and work beautifully sliced into salads, poached for desserts or baked into comforting fruit crumbles.

Squash
An affordable and versatile addition to autumn meals, squash is rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A to helps maintain a healthy immune system. Squash can be roasted and added to hearty traybakes for a nutritious seasonal supper, blended into soups, or spiralised and used as a spaghetti alternative for a lighter meal option.

Fennel
Fennel brings a subtle aniseed flavour and a crisp texture to seasonal cooking. It provides fibre and vitamin C, both of which support a healthy immune system. It can be thinly sliced into salads, roasted alongside other vegetables, or added to pasta dishes for extra flavour and crunch.
