August is arguably the most abundant month of the year for fresh produce, making it the perfect time to enjoy seasonal summer fruits vegetables that often come with a premium price tag during the colder months in the UK. As temperatures rise, so do our hydration needs, and most summer seasonal produce naturally contribute to fluid intake, making them an ideal choice during this record-breaking hot summer.

Stone fruit
Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and cherries are at their best in August. They are rich in vitamins, fibre and protective plant compounds, while their high-water content can help support hydration. Enjoy them as a snack, add sliced peaches or nectarines to salads, grill them for a simple dessert, or blend them into smoothies and yoghurt bowls.

Cucumber
Light, cooling and easy to digest, cucumbers are made up of around 95% water, making them a great choice for hydration. They work perfectly in summer salads, tzatziki, chilled soups or infused water with lemon and mint for a refreshing twist.

Tomatoes
Rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect skin cells from sun-related damage, tomatoes are a summer staple. Add them to colourful salads, bruschetta, gazpacho or homemade salsa, or simply pair with mozzarella and basil for a quick Caprese-style dish.

Peppers
Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, peppers support immune health and help protect cells from oxidative stress. Their sweet crunch makes them ideal for summer recipes such as Greek salads or kebabs, they can be roasted and added to grain bowls, tossed into stir fries or sliced and served with hummus for a simple, nutrient-rich snack.
