Eating food when it’s in season not only means it tastes better, it’s also great for your health and the environment. Not to mention, in-season produce is often cheaper, especially when there is a glut! In July, we’re focusing on aubergines, broccoli and strawberries.

Aubergines
Aubergines are rich in fibre and antioxidants, and great for heart health. They’re easy to prepare – simply slice and roast in olive oil, dice and fry in curries and pasta sauces, or include in traybakes.

Broccoli
Rich in vitamin C, vitamin K and fibre, broccoli supports immunity and bone health. For a simple addition, lightly steam or stir-fry to preserve nutrients, or roast with olive, rapeseed, or avocado oil, which contain healthy unsaturated fats that tolerate higher cooking temperatures and help your body absorb broccoli’s fat-soluble vitamins more effectively.

Strawberries
Providing around twice as much vitamin C as raspberries – an 80g portion provides over 100% of your daily recommended value – strawberries support immune health and are extra tasty during the summer season. They’re effortless to add to your diet – scatter over porridge or yoghurt, blend into smoothies, or enjoy fresh as a naturally sweet snack (ideal after dinner if you’re craving something sweet).
